The Team

Our Story

Tom and Sue first met at the Kansas City Art Institute and became good friends. Tom graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design, Sue with a BFA in Painting. Life happened, and they lost touch for, well, a long time.

Tom

Tom's path led him to agencies big and small, including behemoth McAnn/Erickson, honing his skills in art direction, graphic design, content creation, and producing and directing TV commercials. Along the way, he collected a boatload of awards, too. Eventually, his titles included Creative Director, and at his last agency stint, Executive Vice President of Business Development.

Sue

Sue's journey was more winding. She freelanced for production studios, publishers, and small agencies in NYC, Connecticut, and Arizona, creating graphics and layouts for print and multimedia. All the while, she continued exhibiting her multidisciplinary art in solo and group shows in NYC, Seattle, Chicago, and the Hudson Valley. Eventually, she launched a hand-sewn, hand-painted clothing line on Etsy, teaching herself web design and social media to promote both her fashion and mixed-media art.

"How 'bout Detroit?"

When Tom and Sue reconnected, Sue was looking to relocate from New York's Hudson Valley. Tom made her a three-word offer she couldn't resist: "How 'bout Detroit?" Sue responded with a two-word, "Why not?". They became life partners.

Tom and Sue

Tom had built his own freelance practice, offering marketing and advertising services, graphic design, social media, logo creation, and whatever else clients needed — everything but web design.

Sue, meanwhile, had been sharpening her web design chops, going from self-hosted sites to custom WordPress builds.

Maniaci Marketing

That was the last piece of the puzzle. Eighty-plus websites later, they’ve evolved into the two-person agency they are today.
